Why beeswax is awesome?

Beeswax is a by-product of honey production, produced by the female worker honeybees. Around eight kilograms of honey are consumed by bees to produce every one kilogram of wax. Depending on the kind of hives used (movable or fixed) the ratio of honey to beeswax production is approximately 75:1. It explains why beeswax is expensive.
- Waterproof
Beeswax is a very stable substance, and its properties change little over time. It is resistant to hydrolysis and natural oxidisation and is insoluble in water. It is a complex material consisting of many different substances, but predominantly of esters of higher fatty acids and alcohols, pigments mostly from pollen and propolis, as well as minute traces of bee material. Because beeswax does not expire, spoil, become rancid, it can continue to be reheated and reused. Just like Frank Wrap!

Bees affect more than just our food and medicines. We all know that honeybees are connected with several critical issues for human and environmental health, including biodiversity, food security, nutrition and sustainable land use. A world without bees would not be possible since the health of the honeybee is a critical step to sustainable agriculture.

Beeswax has been studied in the use of relieving pain and inflammation and has mild anti-swelling effects. The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine reports that it was used to relieve inflammation caused by osteoarthritis.

Beeswax prevents bacteria from entering the body protecting the broken skin. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties benefit those who suffer from topical allergies. Beeswax is largely used in aromatherapy due to its long, slow, clean & smoke-less burn. Do you know candles made of paraffin releases carcinogenic soot when burned?
