Comment faire votre propre emballage alimentaire naturel avec Frank Wrap DIY Kit

DIY Beeswax or Vegan wax Frank Wrap Kit

Make your own food wrap and enjoy a fun hands-on craft activity. An opportunity to involve your kids in a way that encourages their creative imagination and enables indirect learning about plastic reduction and food waste.

The activity consists on a step-by-step process where you are going to use wax to coat the fabric and make your own Frank Wrap. The result is a durable product that is all natural, zero waste and completely eco-friendly.

Frank Wrap is a natural and reusable alternative to protect vegetables, fruits & more. It keeps your food fresh for longer and replaces the single use of plastic cling film.

Blend Bar quantity varies according to the size of the fabric chosen and it is enough to make it all. Our signature Blend Bar is made with Beeswax, Pine Resin and Jojoba Oil - the same ingredients we use to make our Frank Wrap. The Vegan Blend Bar is made with Candelilla Wax, Pine Resin and Jojoba Oil.

You need

  • Beeswax or Vegan Blend Bar from Frank Wrap
  • An old towel (not included)
  • Clean paint brush
  • Clean glass jar - wide enough to allow the brush inside it (not included)
  • Saucepan (not included)
  • Iron (not included)
  • 2 parchment white paper, minimum 5cm larger than the fabric
  • Wooden stick (not included)

 Technique

  1. Cut clean thin fabric into desired shapes and sizes or use the fabric provided in the DIY Kit.
  2. Place the Beeswax Blend Bar from Frank Wrap in the glass jar and set in the saucepan.
  3. Put water in the saucepan. Around two or three centimeters of water is enough.
  4. Let the water boil slowly and allow the bar to melt, about 15 to 20 minutes. You can use a wooden stick to stir it up. In the meantime, protect your work surface with an old towel.
  5. Place one sheet of white parchment paper and spread the piece of fabric flat.
  6. Remove the saucepan with the glass jar inside from heat source and place it near your work surface.
  7. Keep the glass jar inside the saucepan in order to keep it warm.Brush mixture lightly onto fabric. It might solidify, which is fine, as you'll be able to redistribute later. It is easy to oversaturate, so remember that it is easier to add more than take the excess away.
  8. Place the second sheet of parchment paper on the fabric (parchment paper + coated fabric + parchment paper).
  9. Gently press the hot iron (steam off) on the parchment layers, keep iron moving. Use the iron to spread the melted wax over the repair area or full wrap.
  10. Once the wrap looks all wet and covered gently lift top parchment sheet (place sheet to one side, wet side up)
  11. Pick up the wrap by two corners and wave it for 30 seconds until dry. It is hot but it will not burn your fingers

Tips

  • Be careful not to spread over the edge of the parchment paper onto the iron!
  • Store left over Beeswax Blend Bar in the original packaging.
  • Remove any waxy residue from your fingers with warm water and soap. Dry your hands and apply a drop of baby oil or olive oil in case it persists.
  • Keep the glass jar and brush for next time.
  • Give preference to certified organic GOTS and OEKO TEX cotton fabric when creating your own wraps.

Thank you for going plastic free!
